Building EVs and hybrid batteries requires rare-earth minerals. Unfortunately, some of those minerals are from regions where human rights abuses are common and there are no concerns about the impact to the environment and what that means for the locals.

While there has been a movement to reduce the use of minerals mined under horrible conditions, the industry needs to and can do better.
