The Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences (AES) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time, Tenure-Track Faculty to develop and lead an externally funded research group, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and engage in university and professional service. Research topics of particular interest include experimental, computational and/or theoretical approaches to astrodynamics, formation ight, attitude dynamics, navigation, and guidance to enable sustained space activities including, exploration, economic development, and human activity. This position will be a member of the AES faculty and will participate in course development and assessment, research, faculty governance, and university service. The position is anticipated to start in Fall 2024, but a later start date may be negotiated. This position is anticipated to be hired at the Assistant Professor rank; however, qualified candidates may be considered at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. |

- What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Successful candidates will be expected to engage in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring; develop an externally funded research program in their technical area; contribute professional leadership and service to their unit, the college, and their professional community; and cultivate and contribute to the inclusive excellence of our academic community. The typical distribution of work for this role is 40% teaching, 40% scholarly and creative work (research), and 20% leadership and service. |

- What We Can Offer
The anticipated academic year salary range for this position at the Assistant Professor rank is $105,000 - $120,000. Qualified candidates will be considered for Associate Professor or Professor rank. The full salary range is $105,000 - $180,000, depending on rank. A relocation stipend may be available within CEAS guidelines. Tenure-track faculty benefits include eligibility for gender-neutral paid parental leave; housing down-payment assistance programs; a relocation and dual career assistance program; and teaching, research, and professional development. |

- What We Require
Applicants must have earned a research doctorate in aerospace engineering (or a related area) or expect to have their degree conferred before starting a tenure track faculty appointment. Candidates being considered for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank must meet University standards and unit criteria for tenure and promotion to the designated rank. These criteria generally include having an established and ongoing program of original research, a strong publication record, a demonstrated ability to obtain external funding, and a record of high-quality teaching and mentoring. |
- What You Will Need
Candidates must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to teach and work in a highly collaborative environment. An understanding and appreciation for aerospace engineering fundamentals, as well as excellent management, communication, and organizational skills, along with a willingness to learn quickly, is required. Candidates should have prior teaching, research, and/or industry experience in aerospace engineering, aeronautics, astronautics, computer science, or closely related elds. Research topics of particular interest are centered on the engineering and application of astrodynamics, navigation, guidance, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) in astronautical systems, and applications which materially affect space economics, policy, and decision making. Candidates should be able to develop an externally funded research program that can include collaborations with colleagues throughout the Smead Aerospace Department and across the College and Engineering and Applied Sciences. Candidates should be capable of teaching a wide range of undergraduate aerospace engineering courses in both lecture and laboratory formats. Candidates should also be capable of teaching core graduate courses as well as developing new graduate courses as part of the Astrodynamics and Satellite Navigation Focus Area. |
