General Description of Responsibilities:
- Supports, maintains, and configures all Microsoft SQL servers in all SMP facilities company-wide
- Daily management of all databases, maintenance plans, and SQL Agent jobs on all SQL servers
- Works with software developers to create new data objects based on best practices (tables, views, and stored procedures)
- Works with software developers on query tuning and schema refinement
- Monitors health and performance of all SQL servers
- Ensures high levels of performance, availability, sustainability, and security
- Analyzes, solves, and corrects issues in real time
- Performs complex technical performance and system resource utilization analysis
- Performs complex SQL troubleshooting across a broad spectrum of potential root causes including but not limited to SAN, DASD, server hardware resources, SQL server configuration, locking, blocking, SSIS/ETL, and T-SQL code issues
- Refines and automates processes, tracks issues, and documents changes
- Identifies inadequate or inefficient systems/processes and recommends alternative solutions to increase efficiency
- Serves as the project manager and coordinates the utilization of all IT resources for all new SQL server implementations and for all upgrades of existing SQL servers
- Works closely with the infrastructure team on new server provisioning, SAN provisioning, and resource sizing
- Works closely with the infrastructure and software development teams on troubleshooting activities
- Composes and maintains SQL database diagrams as required
- Composes and maintains ETL and integration documentation as required
- Conducts and manages all testing activities as required for change management activities
- Provides 24/7 support for critical production systems
- Performs scheduled maintenance and supports release deployment activities after hours
- Proactively identifies new trends and technologies for possible application within the company
- Provides extensive knowledge and technical leadership to effectively collaborate with the software developers
- Conducts feasibility studies and determines economic justification of all proposed SQL server projects
- Maintains all required corporate IT SOX compliance documentation for SQL DBA activities
Work Experience Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar role
- Demonstrated expert with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO)
- Demonstrated expert with backups, restores, and recovery models
- Demonstrated expert with profiler traces, execution plans, and other performance tuning & troubleshooting tools
- Strong experience with storage area networks, disk volume strategy, system resource sizing assessments, and ongoing optimization
- Strong experience developing, configuring, and deploying SSIS, SSRS, & SSAS in both online and data warehouse environments
- Strong experience implementing and supporting Power BI
- Experience with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
- Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining Windows server
- Experience in software change management practices
- Thorough knowledge of the software development lifecycle. Programming experience is a plus
- Exposure to Azure SQL
- Working knowledge of Active Directory
- Experience with DB2 for IBM I and IBM iSeries Administration is a huge plus
- Experience with Oracle & SAP Sybase is a plus
- Experience with third-party replication & high-availability solutions from Veritas & Zerto is a plus
- Prior work in the manufacturing, distribution, or automotive space is a plus
