POSITION DETAILS

Position Summary

The Senior Project Engineer supports the design effort of motors and electro-mechanical actuation devices, (EMAs), and works under technical supervision of a Sr. Principal Engineer or Sr. Engineering Manager.

This position requires interactions with other engineering associates, suppliers, and applicable departmental assignees (production, sales, quality, program management, etc.) in Concurrent Engineering (NPI) environment to develop producible and economical design solutions.

Hands-on participation in the test laboratory and related design validation, prototype development, as well as product preparation activities is required.

Principal Activities
  • Performs DC Brushed and Brushless Motor Design (Mechanical and Electrical), with types such as Frameless, Gear-motor and Brake-motor. In addition, significant activity will involve EMA design and future integration of controls.
  • Reviews customer motor RFQ and specifications, develops preliminary design concepts and prepares technical proposals for new business opportunities.
  • Prepares Design 3D models, 2D drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and all design related documentation or reports.
  • Performs tolerance stack-ups, fits and clearances, and stress and fatigue analysis or support as required.
  • Performs analytical and/or experimental testing as necessary to demonstrate soundness of the design.
  • As defined in the CIRCOR New Product Introduction procedures, the Engineer works with Sr. level Engineers, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Procurement, Operations and Program Management to ensure designs are efficient to manufacture and inspect, and within cost targets.
  • Investigates production problems when called upon and searches for solutions; advises and assists other department members on design issues.
  • Completes forms and relevant documentation within the Engineering department for change management, procurement, fabrication and testing.
  • Generates applicable test and assembly procedures and reports for design verification and manufacturing.
  • Initiates requests and supports fabrication of prototypes and order special materials when required, as well as any fixtures and tooling needed.


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Experience:
  • SolidWorks (highly preferred)
  • MathCAD, Simulink or Equivalent Engineering Software Tools
  • Motor Design Software such as ANSYS, SPEED, Flux 2D/3D
  • GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Stress Analysis - Linear
    FEA experience is a plus
  • Structural Mechanics - Fastening Methods, Torque Design, Material Selection, Bearing Design
  • Machine Elements in Mechanical Design - Strength of Materials, Processing, Finish, etc.
  • AS9100/ TS16949 Experience Preferred
  • Technical Writing - Technical Proposals, Assembly and Test Procedures Reports, Failure Analysis
  • Compatibility - Lubricants, Service Media, Materials
  • Knowledge of electronics and EMI

Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering relevant subject, and 10(+) years of experience.

SALARY RANGE: $108K-$136K

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience
