DNV - Markets and Risk's Design and Evaluation group is seeking an experienced evaluation engineer to join our team of energy market research and evaluation professionals across the country. This group is dedicated to being our clients' trusted advisors on addressing how their business adapts to the changing energy market. We are focused on helping our customers improve their energy efficiency and clean energy policies and develop and implement successful program offerings.

The individual will manage and provide advanced technical contributions to energy efficiency research and evaluation projects in the Northeast U.S. Typical projects would include impact evaluations of residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency and demand response programs. The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical lead and will interface with clients, mentor engineering staff, lead field teams, provide quality control for Evaluation Engineers, and perform advanced data collection and complex analyses. This position will be based out of any of our Oakland, CA, Medford, MA or North Andover, MA offices.

What You'll Do
  • Lead teams to collectively complete EM&V tasks on time and on budget
  • Design energy analyses using advanced spreadsheets and building simulation software
  • Perform and train personnel to perform on-site inspections and energy efficiency assessments
  • Verify installation, operations, and performance characteristics of energy-efficient equipment and measures
  • Install measurement equipment and analyze measured data, including data loggers, power recorders, and other data acquisition systems
  • Analyze energy performance and report the impacts associated with electric and gas efficiency improvements
  • Provide quality control of all engineering deliverables in the form of analysis and report review
  • Write project work plans and approve site level evaluation, measurement, and verification (EM&V) plans
  • Manage projects and/or tasks involving engineering or field data collection elements
  • Manage budgets and schedules and teams of people
  • Present and defend the methodology and results of energy efficiency program impact evaluations through written reports
  • Impart knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and evaluation methods

Position Qualifications

What is Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (related engineering B.S. will be considered only when paired with energy efficiency experience, or specialization)
  • Minimum six (6) years of work experience in energy efficiency program implementation or program evaluation
  • Expertise in evaluation, measurement, and verification of energy efficiency measures
  • Expertise installing measurement equipment, including data loggers and power recorders
  • Extensive knowledge of building science, HVAC, electrical, and other industrial systems
  • Advanced data analysis and innovative problem-solving skills
  • An organized, detail-oriented approach and the ability to work independently
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time as required. Most travel is regional.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle required. Mileage will be reimbursed
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, ability to climb ladders, and spend several hours walking around buildings
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The starting pay range for this role is $115,000 - $160,000.
