ABOUT THE ROLE: The City of Cambridge Electrical Department is seeking a highly motivated person to assume a role in the review and management of municipal improvement projects and on municipal projects with an emphasis on energy efficiency. This person will evaluate and make recommendations on specific systems related to the distribution of lighting and power loads in existing buildings or associated public properties. This person will also be responsible for recording and documenting changes or additions to existing systems including but not limited to Municipal Fire Alarm Circuits, Fiber Networks, and conduits/wires in and above the public way.

Under the supervision of the City Electrician and the Assistant City Electrician, the Project Manager will perform the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the City Electrician and the Assistant City Electrician, the Project Manager will perform the following duties:
- Actively participate in complex technical projects with other city departments and engage other city departments in design processes.
- Communicate with the public concerning Electrical Department projects and issues or as otherwise directed by the City Electrician.
- Prepare and/or review design drawings and draft specifications for city projects.
- Manage and administer construction contracts including schedule, budget, and quality control.
- Manage consulting engineering firms performing design of contracts and construction management services.
- Collaborate with Purchasing Agent to review specifications from City departments and look for innovative ways to conserve and pay for energy related projects.
- Inspect construction, maintenance, and/or repairs by contractors of municipal infrastructure including, parks and related facilities.
- Manage and trouble shoot complex lighting system controls, building management systems, and other related systems with a high level of energy efficiency.
- Assist in emergency situations as directed by the City Electrician.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, with progressively increasingly levels of responsibility.
- Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to effectively engage city staff in the design and construction processes.
- Ability to effectively convey complex technical information to the public.
- Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to manage and administer construction contracts.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts State Electrical Code.
- Knowledge of Municipal Signal Systems, Fiber Cable Networks, local network cabling and fire and security building systems.
- Knowledge of engineering principles related to the design and construction of electrical systems.
- Knowledge of CAD, SCADA systems and other automated system management systems and Geographic Information System software.
- Capable of remaining up to date on industry standard changes, code changes and new technologies as they emerge.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Massachusetts Professional Engineer's License is desirable.
- Massachusetts Journeyman's Electricians License is desirable.
