DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the National Director of Rail & Transit in Cleveland, OH in a full-time remote or hybrid work environment, Michael Baker is seeking a talented Technical Manager - Transit Technologies to help make a difference in our Rail & Transit Practice. The position will have a focus on transit but will also include coordinate with other transportation technology initiatives including connected and automated vehicles, smart mobility, electric vehicles, people movers, potentially air side transportation solutions, etc.
Primary Responsibilities
The Technical Manager - Transit Technologies will be responsible for providing technical leadership for the rail and transit group, working in conjunction with the Planning, Transportation and Mobility Technology Solutions Practices; will contribute as a regional leader and collaborate nationally to the continued growth of the Rail & Transit Practice; meet regularly with Rail & Transit, Planning, Transportation, and Mobility & Technology Solutions Practice Leaders and to identify the needs of the Practice, implement the objectives, and discuss progress on various initiatives and work closely with these practice leaders to align the initiatives with the company's priorities.

The Technical Manager - Transit Technologies' primary focus is driving technical excellence by:
  • Executing and leading hands-on production efforts on a wide range of transit and transportation planning and implementation projects including service development planning
  • Actively participating in technology advancement, identifying tech for strategic implementation and keeping up with the changing technology
  • Disseminating industry information internally and encouraging the promotion of the company through trade publications
  • Directly interacting with clients, stakeholders, and the public
  • Mentoring other staff, and supporting marketing and business development efforts
  • Engaging with relevant industry committees
  • Serving as technical resource for the planning/rail & transit/mobility technology solutions throughout the company.
  • Leading evaluation and implementation of innovative technical solutions for internal project teams and clients.
  • Serving as a mentor to staff engineers, providing technical advice/guidance and training when needed
  • Developing webinars to share internally and externally to drive technical excellence.

Additionally, the Technical Manager - Transit Technologies is expected to engage in industry committee(s) and/or other national technical committees related to transit and technologies.

The preferred candidate will have demonstrated experience as a key contributor on a complex project planning, design or implementation and also have demonstrated adaptation to and integration of new technologies into the workplace.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer
  • Transit Planning, Technology, and Project Implementation Experience
  • Minimum 10 years of planning and design experience in transit and/or public transportation sector
  • Assist with responses to proposals to position for new projects
  • Responsible as technical lead for planning and design of transit and transportation projects with technology and mobility solutions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for preparing and presenting planning reports and projects
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to provide leadership on a project team, overseeing the work of professional staff by making and reviewing work assignments, establishing priorities, coordinating activities, and resolving related work problems
  • Mentor junior staff

Preferred Qualifications
  • MS Engineering or related technical discipline
  • Application of advanced technologies related to transit technologies and mobility technology solutions
  • Technical Management and/or Project Management experience on transit and/or public transportation projects.
  • Published papers and presentations related to public transportation/transit issues.
  • Comprehensive understanding of public transportation agencies' planning, operations, capital planning, and/or implementation needs.

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $100,942- $174,870 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
