Overview
The Mechanical design engineering manager is responsible for leading and executing technical projects for new lithium battery products. Under his/her responsibility will be the project planning, concept development/selection and implementation. Understand and analyze the critical factors and tradeoffs. Facilitate the collaboration for a modular design, product architecture and systems thinking. Some of the key activities are the scoping of new products and opportunities, product definition, translation of the voice of the customer to technical requirements, planning, technical roadmaps, and product leadership. The position is located in Alpharetta, Georgia.

The Mechanical design engineering manager is responsible for leading and executing technical projects for new lithium battery products. Responsibilities
Product Development
- Ensure project development activities are completed on time, meeting all requirements, including cost, quality & performance targets to support the project plans and project execution.
- Problem solver and resourceful leader to remove roadblocks.
- Lead the action plans to have a good product definition, translated into technical requirements to deliver product leadership.
- Design, prototyping, validation and implementation of new products.
- Lead the development, validation and product approval using DVP&R and FMEA with the engineers.
- Provide technical support to sales, and service for quality issues assigning the application engineers to support engineering to order and quality projects.
- Conduct integration events and technical reviews for design, quality, cost, manufacturability and product safety.
- Collaborate with marketing and product management to translate the voice of the customer and marketing specification to engineering requirements and product specification.
- Select proper components, technologies, materials and manufacturing processes best suited for the application.
- Perform and document tolerance stack-up analysis, analytic work associated with mechanical engineering and mine data to support fact-based decision making.
- Define mechanical specifications.
- Supervises the creation of 3D models and 2D drawings of parts and assemblies.
Management
- Leads the Mechanical Engineering team, and assigns work tasks in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Is the design authority for Mechanical Engineering
- Project planning and development of multiple scenarios during the project scoping to recommend the best path for the project.
- Budget management (Project Expenses and capital).
- Lead and prioritize the effort of the cross-functional team to assure successful project completion. Will often be required to multitask and coordinate multiple large projects simultaneously.
- Communication and tracking the progress of the project.
- Close collaboration with manufacturing and service to improve the product manufacturability (Design for Manufacturing) and serviceability (Design for Service)
Qualifications
Education, Experience, Certifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering and/or advanced degree in engineering.
- MBA is a plus
- Project Management Professional (PMI certification)
- Systems Engineering
- Six Sigma Certification
Basic Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or equivalent.
- Advanced degree in engineering or business management preferred.
- Requires 7-10 years of experience with product design, CAD modeling, GD&T.
- Requires 5 years of experience of management, or leading teams in a technical environment.
Preferred qualifications
- MS Mechanical
- Experience with mechanical design of lithium batteries, energy storage, materials selection, and injection molding.
- Project Management Professional (PMI certification)
- Lean/Six Sigma Certification
- System Engineering Certification experience
- Proficient on leading teams, negotiation and conflict management.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 for environmental testing, or MIL-STD-31000A and/or ASME Y14.100 standards for drawings, UL2580 for safety, or UN38.3 for Lithium battery transportation, is a plus
To be successful with this role:
- Engineering skills in CAD, mechanical or electrical design, hardware and tooling design, heat transfer and materials.
- Excellent understanding of GD&T
- Knowledge of FEA (any combination of structural, heat transfer and fluid dynamics)
- Excellent understanding of mechanical principles, tolerancing and strength of materials
- Leading with a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a high understanding of product and manufacturing process.
- Project management certification and agile experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build bridges and manage an engineering team.
- System thinking and innovative mindset.
- Manage mechanical system integration of projects in product development and advanced development.
- Collaborate with marketing and product management to translate the voice of the customer and market
