SUMMARY

The Manager and Head of Technical Services will deliver operational improvements which will result in bottom line, quantified results. This role focus is the cost optimization of MAHLE's manufacturing process through the strategic development and allocation of MAHLE's technical resources. This role supports the creation of a Continuous Improvement (CI) culture that drives behaviors of employees to deliver sustainable results in safety, quality, cost, and delivery. Support the business to improve and simplify existing processes and ensure capability of the new ones to drive reliability, predictability, and efficiency.

The Manager and Head of Technical Services is responsible for the Asset Management, Asset performance and Manufacturing installed capacity of the plant, directs and coordinates activities concerning design, construction, modification, and maintenance of all equipment machinery. The Manager and Head of Operations Support is a member of the Plant Management Team, which develops and implements the organization's short-term and long-term strategic plan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the MPS deployment by creating a lean and continuous improvement roadmap that includes a comprehensive analysis and prioritization of key opportunities. Include and engage cross functional members at all levels of the organization as well as execute initiatives that will drive sustainable results.
  • Work closely with the Plant Management team to drive and foster a cultural transformation through the business by building effective matrix teams and driving involvement and talent multiplication to deliver successful productivity, cost reduction and/or quality improvement initiatives.
  • Directs the following teams: Engineering, Maintenance and Operational Excellence.
  • Create a culture which supports disciplined & systematic process management; data driven decision making; continuous improvement aligned with established strategy & objectives. Participate in integrated process development for new program launches and approve process design per PDP requirements.
  • Serve as a leader of change and innovation. Challenge status quo, effectively influence others (at all levels of the organization) to embrace change, overcome resistance and seek out outstanding ideas and implement.
  • Conduct studies in cost, quality, productivity, flow, value stream mapping and root cause analysis.
  • Directs department personnel in establishing standards and policies for the standardization, selection, installation, modification, operating procedure, inspection, and maintenance of equipment and tooling. Coordinates the scope and specifications for new equipment and tooling, establishes the leadership for effective maintenance schedules for all equipment.
  • Establishes and controls operation and capital budgets required to achieve required profit margins.
  • Reviews and selects new technology required to ensure cost competitiveness.
  • Strong understanding and control of safety codes to realize the impact of potential working hazards.
  • Directs Engineers and Technicians in performing projects that will meet plant goals for productivity, efficiency, new product launch schedules, scrap and safety.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Engineering Team - Manufacturing Engineers, Industrial Engineers, and Process Engineers
  • Operations Support Teams - Assembly, Injection Molding and Tooling
  • Operational Excellence - MPS Experts

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Engineering Bachelor's Degree required, MBA or MEM desired.
  • 10 years of automotive process engineering experience is required; 5+ years of Continuous Improvement experience is strongly preferred.
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt Certification is strongly preferred.
  • Proven understanding & successful application of Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies including Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Ability to handle projects with multiple work streams, with proven leadership success over a wide variety of business problems.
  • Proven & effective facilitation, leadership, mentoring, and training skills.
  • Ability to provide decisive leadership and team facilitation in the face of adversity - define tasks clearly, identify and coordinate resources, and execute a go-forward plan.
  • Ability to define goals, metrics, and levels of success for internal/external customers.
  • Proven planning abilities, including successful execution of such plans.
  • Proven execution of change management within an organization.
  • Must be able to ascertain how to react and successfully handle difficult situations at multiple levels within the organization.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge required in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
  • Must be able to prioritize activities.
  • Must be able to work under limited supervision, taking initiative when necessary, including leading indirect reports.
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented.
  • International experience strongly is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The environment will vary in this position based on assignments. When working in the office environment, noise is generally minimal.

The environment in manufacturing plants and testing labs are often loud, hot, and with particulates in the air. Working environment may contain potentially hazardous materials such as acids, solvents, oils, and common etchants. In such environments, adherence to PPE regulations is required.

OVERTIME

Employees must be able to work additional hours and/or additional days during the payroll week, which can and will be in excess of forty (40) hours per payroll week. Working overtime is a condition of employment.
