IG North America has an opening for a Procurement Specialist in the Houston or La Porte, TX region executing commercial activities supporting Plant Maintenance, Turnarounds and Capital projects.
Position Summary:
This position is accountable for sourcing and buying a broad range of service categories across business units within the Americas region. These procurement activities include services in support of operating plants, turnarounds, and capital projects. The incumbent will implement assignments where the source of supply has not been pre-determined through existing supply agreements and competitive bidding as required. Additionally, the position, in coordination with Air Products technical resources, will develop qualified vendors that will broaden and strengthen the existing supply base.
A strong technical background in contract services procurement is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a broad commodity background and familiarity with construction, maintenance, and labor services procurement as well as extensive contract management experience. The position requires detailed knowledge of the procurement function combined with work process knowledge related to requisitioning, buying, receiving and disbursements. Negotiating is a critical part of the daily activities. The candidate must have a successful record of negotiating pricing, terms, and conditions as well as experience in handling large value complex agreements. The position interfaces regularly with requisitioner's, vendors, project engineers, and turnaround managers. The position will actively participate in best practice sharing.
Responsibilities:
Conducting competitive bidding events using the Workday/Scout RFP system
Negotiating pricing, labor rates and terms with vendors
Purchase order processing using the buyer role in SAP
Handling existing vendor relationships
Order administration, problem resolution, supplier complaints, etc.
Discrepancy resolution for purchase order payments
Contractor/supplier qualification
The routine practice of using data for decision making and metric reporting
Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment; incumbent handles multiple, competing priorities.

Ability to work without close supervision. Self-motivated and willingness to learn. Makes good use of time, completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Qualifications:
BS/BA Degree
Technical background / experience in contract services procurement
Knowledge of sourcing / procurement work processes
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Existing roles in SAP preferred (not necessarily purchasing roles)
Competency in using the Microsoft Office suite of products
Must be comfortable with IT systems and SAP; both are used extensively daily
Must enjoy and have a successful track record of negotiating, which is done every day both with suppliers and internal clients
Self-motivated contributor with the ability to work independently through managed objectives
Must be able to work in a small team environment
Minimal travel, none on a recurring basis
