Mechanical Engineer of Facilities - San Jose CA

Location: This role will be 100% onsite in Great Oaks (HQ). San Jose, CA 95138
W2 contract x 12 months (with potential to extend or convert)
Full time, Regular working hours (5 days per week)
Pay Range: 65 - 75/hr

Duties:
Responsible for industrial campus facility mechanical systems design, selection, construction and ongoing operational engineering support. The facility mechanical systems and equipment includes centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, pumps, VFDs, steam boilers, hot water boilers, oil free compressors, desiccant dryers, air handlers, exhaust fans, VAV boxes, HEPA filters, recirculating air units, make-up air units, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, acid and VOC scrubbers, heat exchangers, tanks, vacuum pumps, scrubbers, control systems, etc. Take on Project Management responsibilities of projects during design phase and construction phase.

Organize and lead project meetings. Able to develop detailed project scope of work and RFP, and to evaluate competitive bids and make recommendations for vendor selection. Create new capital project ROM estimates, construction schedules, and funding justification presentations. Be able to review and comment on new mechanical systems designs produced by MEP design firms under contract to WD.
Review existing mechanical systems designs as required when troubleshooting issues which may require and engineered solution.
Make suggestions on improvements.
Assist with facility condition assessment of existing mechanical systems.
Review existing mechanical systems installations through field investigation when necessary.
Assist with site systems capacity planning including projected growth in loads, required systems redundancy and end of life determination.
Evaluation of new systems or equipment using ROI, total cost of ownership, reliability, performance, and energy efficiency calculations along with schedule impacts.
Be able to create and manage projects that help with our corporate sustainability goals which include energy savings and water savings.

Experience:
Minimum 4 years of experience with high-tech electronics/semiconductor manufacturing or research facility, pharmaceutical bio-tech facility, or some other "high availability" and "high tech type of facility.
Working knowledge of design standards for Clean Rooms, Analytical Labs, Data Centers, Telecom Rooms, Offices, Mechanical Rooms, and Central Utility Plants.
Able to multitask and to keep project data organized and up to date.
Must be willing and able to apply and enforce WD procedures meant to maximize safety and eliminate potential environmental and health hazards while at the same time minimizing downtime impacts on our production operations, during the execution of projects.
Review and approve construction task plans.
Good communicator (verbal and written) who is able to maintain a friendly and open disposition while working with WD cross-functional groups such as Maintenance and Operations, Environmental Health and Safety and Manufacturing, and also when working with outside personnel such as Contractors, Vendors and Consultants.
Capabilities: Design, Engineering Calculations, Estimating, Scheduling,
Writing RFP's, Evaluating Proposals, Project Management, Mechanical Systems Troubleshooting.

Education:
  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Licensing: PE license or equivalent technical background.
  • Technical Strength: Strong HVAC and Process Piping skills.
  • Experience with Facility Control systems.
  • Good working knowledge of electrical power systems.
  • Good analytical skills.
