This position will be responsible for providing Design support to customer-funded programs and internal research efforts within our Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) business unit of L3Harris Corporation.
Our intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) solutions serve a broad array of government, civil and commercial customers by enhancing information superiority, contributing to our national security, and providing actionable data for the protection of property and human life. We specialize in high-reliability airborne and space-based remote sensing payloads that offer active and motion imaging and data processing, exploitation, and dissemination. We also provide solutions that map and monitor the earth for a variety of commercial and governmental users.

Job Description:
- Performs a wide range of CAD design assignments using the fundamentals of product design engineering analyzing, interpreting and/or making deductions from various product design factors on functionality, manufacturability, cost, and performance.
- Apply specialized knowledge of material science, geometrical tolerancing, design for manufacturing DFM, engineering methods of fabrication and Design for Cost (DFC) throughout the product design process making decisions on design parameters/specifications providing optimum product designs.
- Create, review and release of product design models and/or drawing layouts assuring that the design documentation complies with the program requirements, L3Harris processes and industry standards.
- Investigate product design defects and/or issues emerging from ECOs, SSRs, NCRs performing root cause analysis, making decisions on the proper corrective actions, implementing solutions, and assuring permanent control of the implementations.
- Manage product design configuration systems and administrate the design release process for programs. Prepare and incorporate engineering change orders.
- Works under moderate supervision to set objectives for moderately complex engineering design tasks or assignments.
- Communicates with contacts inside and outside own team to explain and interpret engineering design information, operational processes, practices, and procedures.
- Identifies and addresses changes within own job area.
- Works to achieve operational targets with some impact on departmental results.
- Affect, interpret, or implement product design operating practices.
- Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience
- Proficient knowledge in 3D parametric CAD modeling and PDM systems. Experience with Inventor and Vault highly desirable.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and general understanding of manufacturing and assembly techniques.
- Knowledge of applicable government and industry standards including ASME Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and ASME Y14.100 (Engineering Drawing Practices), and its application techniques.
- Strong understanding and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Previous experience in designing electro-optical and opto-mechanical payloads and sub-systems for aerospace & military defense applications.
- Experience in developing interfaces between spacecraft, payload systems, and sub-assemblies is highly desired.
- Previous experience in supporting the design of space structures, mechanisms, electronics packaging, and/or composite structures.
- Outstanding oral, written and presentation skills for interfacing with senior management and customers.
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
