Job Title: Senior Environmental Engineer

Salary Range: $76,860 - $102,480

Role & Responsibilities:

Senior Environmental Engineer Description -
  • Sustain regulatory compliance at the facility per all applicable environmental regulations and permits (Federal, State, and Local) including media such as air, water, waste, or land.
  • General handling and/or implementation of facility environmental requirements such as permitting, stack testing, inspections, monitoring, and compliance plans (i.e., stormwater pollution prevention, spill prevention controls and countermeasures, pollution prevention).
  • Oversight of hazardous material inventory at the facility including regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Effectively leads environmental activities and projects for the plant.
  • Researches and identifies fiscally sound potential projects and then uses established leadership skills to build, develop, and lead teams to execute a solution for the project.
  • Uses standardized environmental policies and methodologies to ensure compliance and systematically make environmental and sustainability improvements. This includes identifying integration issues, removing barriers to success and tracking project status to obtain results as quickly as possible.
  • Preparation and submittal of required environmental reports or notifications to agency regulators, affected parties, or due to internal company requirements.
  • Works with environmental contractors and regulatory bodies to negotiate on the company's behalf and display compliance with regulations.
  • Participates in emergency spill response incidents or drills and oversees plant's handling of all regulated waste material (hazardous, non-hazardous, used oil, universal, etc.).
  • Coordinates training of plant personnel as required by environmental regulations.
  • Adherence to company and regulatory records retention requirements of environmental records, both electronic and hard copies, in an organized manner and for immediate accessibility.

  • Key leader in the plant regarding Engineering and Environmental.
  • Supervises a team of 3 direct reports.
  • Drives the development, implementation, and sustainment of standard work, visual work management, people systems, leader standard work, and accountability.
  • Develops and articulates vision and strategies. Ensures two-way open communication throughout the organization for Environmental Engineering. This includes keeping Plant Management and department stakeholders informed of program status and ensuring coordination of activities between Maintenance, Production, and Engineering. Captures lessons learned from previous projects that can be re-used. Creates and facilitates Environmental compliance to establish true north to orient lean management systems each year.
  • Networking with USG's corporate environmental services team for general guidance, training, internal audits, new raw material assessments, and capital projects.
  • Supports company business objectives and opportunities associated with the sustainability program such as greenhouse gas emissions reduction, water conservation, energy reduction, and waste minimization efforts.
Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field is required (Engineering or Sciences strongly preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with environmental permit types or programs such as Title V for air, national pollutant discharge elimination system "NPDES" for stormwater and wastewater, emergency planning and community right-to-know act "EPCRA", and resource conservation and recovery act "RCRA".
  • Strong leadership, communication (verbal and written), decision making and employee relations skills within a diverse workforce environment. Motivated self-starter with a high level of organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical analysis skills.
  • Strong business orientation and financial analysis skills.

  • Competent with Microsoft Office applications and general familiarity with databases.

Rate of pay may be adjusted based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
