Responsibilities:
As a VP of Engineering in our Building Assessment Energy Services division, you
will play a crucial role in evaluating energy conservation measures across complex
multifamily and commercial facilities. Your key responsibilities include:
1. Designing, developing, and evaluating energy conservation measures, covering
building HVAC, domestic hot water, process loads, lighting, and envelope
systems.
2. Conducting comprehensive assessments of building energy requirements and
expenditures to formulate and implement detailed energy reduction plans.
3. Supporting efforts related to building the energy efficiency team, including direct
report workflow management.
4. Spearheading the creation of tools and processes while managing projects on a
company-wide basis.
5. Performing advanced assessments and evaluating building envelopes,
mechanical, electrical, and process systems to determine energy consumption.
6. Developing and nurturing client relationships, and overseeing the review of
reports.
7. Improving team and company operating procedures with experiences learned
being in the industry.
Daily Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform energy efficiency analyses for ASHRAE Level I, II, and III, and Local Law 87
and 97 energy audits and retro-commissioning.
2. Conduct energy audits and site assessments of complex building systems to
evaluate energy usage and identify energy conservation measures.
3. Perform feasibility, energy savings, and cost-benefit financial analyses for
complex projects.
4. Create building-wide energy reduction plans by conducting energy use analyses
of building and facility systems using analytical tools.
5. Leverage potential rebate, financial, and loan initiatives to support project
implementation.
6. Test and retro-commission building systems to ensure compliance with Federal,
State, and local laws i.e., Local Law 87/97 including measure and verification as
applicable.
7. Perform QA/QC processes of energy reduction plans.
8. Analyze utility bills to identify building energy consumption and potential
opportunities for reduction.
9. Communicate energy reduction plans and meet with clients, such as
management companies, building owners, and building staff.
10. Perform project management of energy efficiency projects to ensure compliance
and proper implementation; including but not limited to coordinating with other
engineering disciplines, contractors, and properties.
11. Develop and expand analytical tool templates and energy audit procedures for
the energy audit team.
12. Support managing the energy audit team, consisting of engineers, analysts,
interns, and administrative staff.
13. Provide performance feedback to management, identify performance issues,
facilitate solutions, and help address them as appropriate.
14. Analyze energy bills including utility rates/tariffs to gather historical energy usage
data.
15. Analyze technical feasibility of energy-saving measures using knowledge of
engineering, energy production, energy use, construction, maintenance, system
operation, and process systems.
16. Build an intimate, in-depth understanding of the clients' goals with outstanding
customer service, timely responses, and proactive solutions.
17. Evaluate products/solutions and development of Energy and water savings
solutions to develop potential vendors, subcontractors, and new FIMs.
18. Support solution development head in standardizing processes and
documentations related to Energy Audits, FIMs, and Projects.
19. Identify energy conservation measures through onsite assessments and review of
building automation system sequence of operations.
20. Develop commissioning plans and other commissioning documentation, and
perform functional testing of equipment during site visits.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this role possesses:
• Masters Degree in engineering or equivalent work experience
• A background as an architect or engineer with over 13 years of experience in the
energy industry
• Professional Engineering (PE) license and professional energy certification by
accredited rating agency (CEM, BPI-MFBA, etc.)
• LEED Accredited Professional or LEED Green Associate preferred
• A solid understanding of ASHRAE, ASTM, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac guidelines.
• Advanced understanding of energy efficiency concepts, HVAC systems, and renewable energy systems
• Expertise with various modeling techniques
• Experience with utility, federal, state, or local energy efficiency programs (e.g., NYSERDA FlexTech)
• Strong technical knowledge of building systems.
• Proficiency in independently performing refinance and pre-purchase assessments, as well as ASHRAE Level 2 and 3 energy audits.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team, particularly on larger properties.
• Experience modeling commercial and multi-family properties utilizing industry-standard software programs such as eQuest, TREAT, IES, or Energy Pro
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to interface seamlessly with all levels of management. Comfortable working in virtual environments with remote teams
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, online software platforms, with the ability to use spreadsheets and data analysis applications
• Takes initiative with limited directions and acts as a team player with the ability to bring alternate points of view to the discussion and analysis.
• Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills
• Ability to multi-task and effectively organize responsibilities with sound project management and leadership skills
• Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service
• Be extremely organized and detail-oriented with great multi-tasking skills
• Personable and able to communicate with people at all levels
• Willingness to travel if necessary
• Willingness to work in the Manhattan office at least 3 days a week
