NYSERDA's Communities and Local Government department seeks a dynamic team player to assist with the implementation of the Clean Energy Communities Program. The primary responsibility will be to manage a caseload of community-based, energy projects with local governments. The candidate should be self-motivated and be able to effectively work individually and in group settings. Attention to detail is a must.

In particular, the selected candidate will work with NYSERDA staff, implementation contractors, and Community applicants. They will also directly manage a variety of CECP projects and assist with the development of policies/programs that influence, encourage and enable community leadership in areas of clean energy such as benchmarking legislation, large carbon-reduction initiatives, community campaigns, peer-to-peer learnings, and other activities that advance energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Mandatory Skills/Experience:
  • 7-10 years of experience
  • A general understanding of the following technologies: Building energy efficiency, electrification technologies, renewables, clean transportation, etc.). This is important since the PM's primary responsibility will be to manage a caseload of community-based energy projects.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, curiosity, resourcefulness, and adaptability, knowledge of local regulations, rules, and constraints pertaining to renewable development, energy efficiency, New York State Stretch Code, or climate change, and strong stakeholder outreach and facilitation capabilities including strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Has well developed understanding of relevant technical principles and their application to a program area. Develops/formulates Deployment issues, problems and needs in at least one technical area. Has acknowledged expertise at conceptual level of technical skills and knowledge in at least one program area. Has basic understanding of State energy/environmental economic development issues.
  • Has developed and managed projects with little specific direction. Develops new projects and co-funding sources with own initiative. Carried out development of several projects through competitive solicitation phase that may or may not result from own initiative. Has provided ideas and rationale for program development in at least one technical area.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to translate technical information into plain language.
  • Strong problem-solving skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements and present alternatives and recommendations.
  • Has demonstrated ability to implement projects in a timely manner. Demonstrates the capability to manage all aspects of on-going projects with no supervision. Is able to prioritize workload with other responsibilities. Effectively discharges general technical and project management assignments in a timely manner.
  • Self-starter who acts independently, directs one's own work, and can handle diverse tasks quickly and accurately. Ability to work independently and within a team structure.
  • Passionate about NYSERDA's mission, demonstrate strong strategic and policy development skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field

Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Experience working with local governments or community-based organizations.
  • Salesforce experience a plus.
