To help us achieve this, we are seeking an Optimization Editor to develop and execute growth and engagement strategies around optimizing both meta data and the on-page experience, leading a team of SEO and digital optimization producers.

This position will lead efforts to test, measure and iterate on a variety of strategies to build audience and increase engagement, with a strong emphasis on results and metrics-driven decision making.

In this position you will:

• Accountable for developing and implementing audience growth strategies resulting in increased site traffic from search and news aggregators and increased on-page engagement

• Partner with newsroom leaders to implement and execute necessary tactics to grow site traffic

• Work across newsroom to influence and inform content planning and goal setting through sharing internal learnings, data trends, an external knowledge/observations.

• Oversee, direct and coach an enthusiastic team of digital producers with the goal of showcasing our highest-value content and growing audience visits to all of our products

• Work with digital leaders and growth marketing to develop strategy for helping to drive subscriptions through content optimization

• Serve as an expert and coach for SEO, helping guide both content production and optimization of meta data and formatting.

• As SEO and discovery trends rapidly change, stay up-to-date with industry best practices and lead in their testing and wider implementation

• Serve as expert in using our content management system

• Test and develop strategies to promote the overall growth and engagement on our platforms


What we expect you to have to be ready:

• At least 6 years of experience and 1 year of management or leadership exp with a Bachelors degree OR (Masters plus 4 years of experience and 1 year leadership or management experience OR 10 years with no degree)

• Prefer at least 3 years of experience as a team lead, coach, or manager of people in a fast-paced operational role

• Knowledge on the most recent trends in search engine optimization

• Ability to nurture talent and identify key hires to accomplish company goals

• An ability to take and give constructive criticism

• Passion and belief in local, regional and statewide journalism and its role as a societal change agent

• Familiarity and experience in using audience metrics to drive tactical as well as strategic decisions on content production and resource allocation

• Understanding of journalism standards and media ethics, with strong news judgement

• Reliable automobile transportation required.

• Reliable internet service for remote work environment required.

• Ability to work weekend and unusual hours as dictated by news events

Preferred Experience in one or more of the following:

• Newspapers, magazines, media, technology, or related field

• Social, interactive, or digital media

While this position allows hybrid work, it will be based in metro Atlanta and the editor will be expected to be onsite in our Atlanta office on a regular basis.
