This position resides within the Central Design Organization (CDO), specifically supporting Byron Generating Station. The purpose of the Byron CDO team is to leverage a diverse team of engineers to lead large scale projects and station modifications to support Byron Station. Modifications range from seeking to improve system reliability, eliminating single point vulnerabilities, to large scale equipment replacements such as pumps, motors and transformers.

Primary purpose of this role will be to lead station modifications within the Electrical discipline scope. Technical skills to include, but not limited to, application of IEEE codes and standards, circuit design, fuse selection, breaker selection and cable sizing.

Responsible for performing engineering and technical tasks, under general supervision, in support of nuclear plant operations.

  • Perform engineering and technical tasks as assigned by supervision applying general engineering principles.
  • Assure all engineering products prepared are in accordance with applicable safety analyses, industry codes, engineering specifications and all regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of effective processes and techniques at appropriate levels of detail and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Recommend format and methodology improvements to standard processes and procedures.

  • Provide in-depth technical expertise to develop, manage and implement engineering analysis, activities and programs.
  • Provide technical expertise and consultation through direct involvement to identify and resolve equipment and system problems.
  • Accountable for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work ensuring proper configuration management and assuring that standard design criteria, practices, procedures and codes are used in preparation of plans and specifications.
  • Perform independent research, reviews, studies and analyses in support of technical projects and programs.
  • Provide task management of engineering issues.
  • Perform engineering tasks as assigned by supervision applying engineering principles.
  • Recommend equipment, new concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify construction, reduce costs, correct design or material flaws, or comply with changes in codes or regulations.

Lead modification development by preparing engineering change packages and supporting design analysis to support assigned station modifications. As required, interface with other engineering disciplines to fully analyze the change within the scope of work. Provide field engineering support during modification installations as the technical lead. Possesses core engineering skills to performs tasks independently as assigned by supervisor. Must be able to manage and implement engineering analysis and technical programs. Has latitude to make technical decisions within accountabilities.

Design Engineering Department:

Defend the plant design and licensing basis. Preparation and approval of design outputs and plant changes in accordance with approved processes and design requirements. Support installation and testing of plant systems and components and facility changes. Ensure the plant physical and functional characteristics are accurately reflected in the plant documents. Perform engineering analysis to support plant changes.

This Engineering role can be filled at Mid, Senior or Senior Staff Engineer levels. Please see minimum qualifications list below for each level

Expected salary range:

Mid-level: $ 88,000 - 108,000

Senior Level: $ 115,000 - 141,000

Senior Staff Level: $ 138,000 - 154,000

Ranges are per year based on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes bonus and 401K.

  • Minimum 2 years nuclear or related engineering experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for Senior Level Engineer
  • B.S. in Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years nuclear or related engineering experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for Senior Staff Level Engineer
  • B.S. in Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years nuclear or related engineering experience

  • Engineer in training certification
  • Good grasp of techniques and a good understanding of the fundamental functions performed by the group
