Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is seeking a talented, motivated Technical Editor & Writer to join our team and create, review & edit technical and non-technical documents for a top government agency. The ideal candidate will have experience translating technical information into clear, concise documents to be used by technical and non-technical personnel. As a Technical Writer you will be composing and maintaining a variety of documents including, functional descriptions, system specifications, user's manuals, training materials, installation guides, reports, presentations, whitepapers, online help or any other customer deliverables and documents. This position can be worked 100% remotely. What You Will Do Work closely with internal stakeholders to develop a strong, functional, up-to-date, and a well-curated internal knowledge base.
Write reports and proposals utilizing MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel for audiences of varying levels, from project leads to business executives.
Write Knowledge Base articles and create standard document and report templates.
Work closely with SMEs to build out internal documentation sites and solicit accurate information.
Deliver accurate functional documentation on time and with a high degree of quality.
Document best practices across the organization in real time.
Assist others with appropriate phrasing for document content.
Plan documentation development processes and coordinate writing projects.
Manage multiple document review cycles and maintain change control for documents as needed.
Complete writing assignments according to organizational standards regarding order, style, terminology, and format.
Conduct research and ensure the use of proper technical terminology.
Select photographs, illustrations, charts, etc. to illustrate material as appropriate.
Develop presentations and graphics, or assist others in doing so, when needed.
Support training development, delivery and maintain a documentation repository if needed.
What You Must Have 3 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 1 year relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years relevant experience.
Client Requirements: 5 years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in a writing-intensive field or significant work experience in a fast-paced enterprise technology-development environment.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Strong team-player attributes with outstanding communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Strong time-management and prioritization skills.
Information gathering and interviewing skills.
Experience in developing internal business and technical documentation.
Comfortable with changing dynamic software development situations.
Experience in capturing and maintaining institutional knowledge.
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, SharePoint and Adobe.
Experience in using enterprise-grade bug tracking systems such as Jira.
Experience working in Agile environments.
Proficiency conducting in-depth review and research of provided technical documentation to identify required updates or the need for development of new content.
The ability to communicate professionally with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including other specification writers, team/production leads, and engineering points of contacts. Bonus Points For Having! Prior Government Contract experience.
