Job Description Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform most work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed predominantly on site. This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility >50% of the time. To allow employees to balance their work and personal lives, we offer flexible "9/80" work schedules, where employees work nine-hour days with every other Friday off within a two-week pay period. We put our customers first - exemplified by our mission: "We Protect Those Who Protect Us ." Sound like a team you want to be a part of? Come build your career with BAE Systems. We are looking for a Product Line Chief Research Engineers (PLCRE) for the Autonomy, Processing & Exploitation (APEX) product line within FAST Labs. APEX research spans technology thrusts from sensor processing (including communications, position, navigation, and timing, and signal exploitation), through knowledge generation and sense-making, up to tactical and operational level autonomy and decision support for manned, unmanned, and teamed mission applications. Our research drives advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and statistical signal processing, pushing the boundaries of what is possible through advanced system prototypes and capability demonstrations. We seek to expand and advance our capabilities into full-spectrum, all-domain, all-participant, multi-time-scale applications. The APEX PLCRE reports to the FAST Labs Chief Engineer and leads the engineering efforts across the product line in support of FAST labs technology research and development across all phases of research project evolution. This leadership includes supporting the establishment, planning, and execution of technology maturation strategies and engineering research and development approaches. The APEX PLCRE guides the application of appropriate engineering rigor and risk-taking naturally associated with advanced R&D, and ensures appropriate technology transition planning for product implementation in the receiving Business Area. Their direct reports include both project engineering managers (PEMs) and research engineers, and their extended team draws as needed from the deep discipline-specific skills provided through the Systems, Software, Hardware, Microelectronics and Integrated Test functional engineering groups. Together this engineering team partners with FAST Labs scientists to conceive, develop, and mature advanced technologies that solve the most challenging problems. Because this role involves classified and collaborative work, it will require an onsite presence. Ensure project and product safety are managed in accordance with company policies, procedures, processes, and best practices.
