Job Description:

Responsibilities:


  • Image Scientists are responsible for providing image expertise in support of developing analytical processes and tools as well as assessing image quality impacts associated with collection and processing for dissemination, archival, exploitation and display of digital imagery.

  • An image scientist focuses on Modeling, Simulation, & Analysis (MSA) works to model image sensing systems, utilizes those models to simulate data produced by the systems, and analyzes simulated results in comparison to desired data quality.

  • Provides image science expertise to conduct image/product quality analysis throughout TCPED chain.

  • Assess utility of image processing routines and advanced algorithms operating on today's baseline and emerging remote sensing systems.

  • Investigates, analyzes, and provides solutions to complex problems encountered by engineering services and quality control using standard engineering practices.

  • Authors technical documents and presentations.

  • Provides guidance and technical expertise to other engineers and leadership.

  • Creates and presents results of technical analyses to management and customers.



Required Skills:


  • Experience with signal processing, image processing, computer vision, or statistical analysis.

  • Seven (7) years' experience with imaging system design for scanning and framing sensors

  • Experience leading/directing small teams of technical contributors.

  • Experience with mathematics and analysis calculating 3-D coordinate system translations/rotations.

  • Experience programming in MATLAB, Python, UNIX based scripting, and/or C++.

  • Six (6) years of experience working with remotely sensed data.

  • Familiarity and/or experience with sensor models used to preform geolocation (GLAS/GFM/RSM sensor models)



Desired Skills:


  • Proficiency or understanding of NITF TREs/DESs that make up GLAS/GFM/RSM sensor Models.

  • Experience populating TREs/DEDs using data downlinked for a specific system.
