Position Type / Standard Work Hours: Full-time/40 hours per week Summary / Objective:
This position will support the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Medium Altitude Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Division (AFLCMC/WII) at Wright Patterson AFB, OH. The Medium Altitude UAS Division plans, develops, acquires, tests, and sustains the fleet of medium altitude Remotely Piloted Aircraft for USAF, Air Combat Command, Air Force Special Operations Command, United States Marine Corps, National Guard, and Foreign Military Sales partner nations. This position will support the development and advancement of MQ-9 Synthetic Aperture Radar capabilities to include, but not necessarily be limited to; improved sensor capabilities, correlation or fusion of SAR with other sensor and intelligence products, improved processing and human machine interface, and improvements in general otherwise affecting the processing, dissemination and exploitation of SAR and fused/correlated multi-sensor products amongst stakeholders (i.e. ACC, ANG, AFSOC, Department of Homeland Security, Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency, and other US customers/agencies). Primary Responsibilities:
Support the development and/or integration of Electro-Optic/Infrared, Signals Intelligence, Electronic Warfare, or other payloads, to include either embedded or podded systems and associated processing and exploitation resources into the MQ-9 weapons system.
Serve as a liaison with Air Force Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities (AF TENCAP) and other DoD projects in support of current and future MQ-9 mission requirements.
Interface with AFRL, DARPA and other technology agencies for future potential transition of advanced SAR technologies (Gotcha, Video SAR, Air to Ground Hydra-Vision, RDUCE, etc.), EO/IR, and other sensor, communications, and data processing/exploitation technologies.
Support the development and further advancement of multi-sensor cross-queuing, fusion and related integration technologies to provide enhanced counter IED capability, detection of time critical targets, and in general for enhanced mission effectiveness and CONOPs.
Support the development, further advancement, and accreditation of data network architectures between the aircraft, GCS and downstream customers or mission participants such as the Squadron Operations Center / Predator Reaper Operations Cell (SOC/POC), DCGS, etc. (i.e. network architecture enhancements to promote improved communications and execution of mission plans, collection of off-board sensor data and other intelligence for enhanced mission execution, intelligence dissemination to end users, etc.)
Support processing, exploitation, and dissemination (PED) software and tool development to include expertise in algorithm design, development, and testing. Prepare airworthiness plan for the integration of payloads or for modifications in general affecting the weapons system, to include documentation and supporting artifacts, and coordination of Military Flight Release (MFR) approvals.
Provide assessments for electromagnetic compatibility of installed sensors and other electronic systems.
Provide documentation and other support to address frequency allocation and assignment activities. Support the investigation and potential incorporation of RPA self-protection technologies such as sense-and-avoid, EW/EA, etc.
Review and provide inputs to applicable military and commercial standards initiatives relating to responsibilities within the program. Required Education and Experience:
• MA/MS degree, and twelve years of directly related experience, five of which must be in the DoD. OR, BA/BS degree, and fifteen years of experience, five of which must be in the DoD. OR, twenty years of experience, eight of which must be in the DoD.
o Recommend degree be from a college or university with an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited engineering program(s). To find out if a school has an ABET accreditation, go to ABET accredited schools (). • Must be knowledgeable of development and sustaining engineering support for RPAs, similar vehicles, and associated systems, subsystems and GCSs; the development of long range plans, roadmaps and mission area plans; processes required to analyze operational capability requirements and determine adequate technical solutions; the integration of radar systems, Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) sensors, weapons, and other payloads/stores; processes necessary to support environmental requirements; and all aspects of RPAs, similar systems and associated GCSs development and supportability.
• Must have experience with, and/or knowledge of, processes required to ensure new designs are sustainable, meet system requirements and requiring-office expectations; support the resolution of Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) issues for RPA or similar vehicle/systems; support laboratories (i.e. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL and/or special projects for new technologies; and provide technical and feasibility analyses for development, testing and fielding of RPAs or similar vehicles.
