Job Description Top Secret Clearance Required Full installation of HVAC systems including Mini-Split, VRF/VRV, Fan-Coil Units, Air Handler Units, outdoor units, pumps, VAVs, CRACs, and exhaust fans in a light-commercial setting. This includes: • Reading schematics and blueprints. • Demolishing existing systems • Laying out and installing appropriate anchors and/or fasteners, attaching threaded rod and hangers, and installing vibration isolation where needed
• Laying out and cutting penetrations through various materials using core drills, hammer drills, saws, and other tools
• Operating duct jacks, chain falls, and other material handling equipment as needed
• Pressure testing, evacuating, determining charge weight, and charging refrigerant circuits • Installing copper, PVC, threaded steel, Victaulic and other piping systems using soldering, brazing, threading, gluing, bolting, and other common methods and Insulating using EPDM (Rubbertex) or mineral-fiber insulation with adhesive, tape, jacketing, or vapor retarder coatings as needed
• Installing sheet metal duct work including Slip & Drive and flange-type joints and insulating using mineral-fiber blanket, anchor pins, staples, tape, and/or vapor retarder as needed
• Installing basic controls such as thermostats and control valves, including basic wiring
• Performing startup • Willing and able to work in confined spaces, at heights, in significant heat and cold, and in dirty environments. • Willing to adhere to appropriate company safety practices at all times
• Complying with manufacturer standards, supervisor instructions, and customer requirements.
• Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Other duties as assigned. Desirable Skills
• Able to translate information from blueprints into a viable plan to complete a project, including material procurement and manpower deployment
• Efficiently troubleshooting a diverse set of HVAC systems.
• Installing Air-Cooled Chillers and other large units
• Ability to weld using MIG or stick for the purpose of affixing steel hangers/supports to a structure • Ability to fabricate duct fittings, up to 24" width, such as transitions and offsets, on site and without the use of a commercial sheet metal brake • Testing and Balancing HVAC systems, including air and water
• Cutting, grooving, threading, and other common methods of pipe joint preparation. • U.S. Citizen with valid driver's license
• Valid and current passport • Top Secret Clearance Required
• Required local travel in the DMV area for local projects
• Required to deploy OCONUS for short term assignments - Assignments can be up to 5 months • Occasional weekend, evening, and after-hours work may be required
• Willing and able to work up to 7 days a week on certain projects, 10 hours a day, sometimes (often times) during non-standard hours • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds • Working conditions include various levels of environmental conditions including but not limited to generally favorable indoor office workspace, moving mechanical parts and vibration; high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles and extreme temperatures and high noise levels.
