Job Details

The Power Distribution and Controls Engineer has overall responsibility to provide engineering support, guidance, and oversight to all electrical, controls and power distribution systems of the Florida and Georgia Minerals operations. The position provides support to the Instrument/Electrical, Mechanical Maintenance and Power Distribution teams. Position also identifies and develops projects to improve the reliability and safe operation of the plant electrical systems/equipment. May also lead commissioning, startups, and troubleshooting.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide engineering support for electrical, controls and power distribution system to the Minerals operating areas for the Florida and Georgia operating locations.
  • Provide technical expertise in low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems including motor control centers, switchgear, protection relays, sizing power cables, etc.
  • Provide engineering support for small and large cost and capital projects.
  • Provide technical expertise to communicate/work with other internal and external engineers.
  • Provide technical guidance and review for electrical procedures, programs and safe work practices.
  • Provide engineering support and expertise for Process Safety Management (PSM) through participation in Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs).
  • Troubleshoot electrical, controls and instrument problems as needed for the operating areas.
  • Lead RCFAs pertaining to electrical and controls systems.
  • Coordinate with electrical utility companies on regular load testing and any other performance issues.
  • Primary point of contact for all external electrical contractors and vendors.

The following is required for this role:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 2-5 years of similar work experience
  • Strong values on safety awareness and execution
  • Demonstrated ability to:

  • Use initiative to make decisions within delegated guidelines

  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrated work experience in plant electrical, PLC and instrument system design, maintenance, and operation.
  • Motors, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, soft-starters, etc.
  • Flow, pressure, temperature, level. pH, density, conductivity, etc.
  • Prior experience working with field personnel in maintenance and troubleshooting activities
  • Excellent organizational competencies including strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage short duration deadlines, emergency situations and multiple priorities

The following is preferred for this role:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards (NEC, ISA, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PLC systems (Rockwell preferred)
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or mining
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and best practices/programs in engineered solutions
