MAXISIQ is seeking an experienced Senior Safety Engineer to support the U.S. Army Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office (RCCTO) in ensuring the safety of advanced combat capabilities during the rapid prototyping and fielding phases. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in safety engineering, risk assessment, and safety compliance within a defense or military environment. This role requires strong technical expertise in assessing safety risks for cutting-edge technologies, including directed energy weapons, unmanned systems, and missile systems, and ensuring compliance with Army safety standards throughout the system lifecycle. This is a full-time position located in Redstone Arsenal, AL with work that becomes available in mid-December upon award.
Key Responsibilities: Leadthe identification, analysis, and mitigation of safety risks for RCCTO's advanced technology projects Conduct thorough hazard analyses (e.g., Fault Tree Analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and safety assessments to ensure all systems meet Army and DoD safety standards. Ensure compliance with military safety regulations, including MIL-STD-882E (System Safety) and other applicable DoD safety guidelines. Develop and maintain safety documentation, including System Safety Program Plans (SSPP), safety assessment reports, and safety case reports for RCCTO projects. Provide safety oversight during the rapid prototyping, testing, and evaluation of new technologies, ensuring all operational safety requirements are met. Support field testing and deployment activities, ensuring safety risks are identified, mitigated, and managed throughout the testing phase. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate safety considerations into the design, development, and testing of combat systems. Review engineering designs and provide safety input to ensure compliance with safety standards and to mitigate potential hazards. Conduct safety audits and inspections of RCCTO facilities, testing environments, and field deployment sites to identify potential safety risks and ensure safety compliance. Monitor the effectiveness of safety measures and recommend improvements to enhance system safety. Develop and deliver safety training and awareness programs for RCCTO personnel, including engineers, operators, and support staff, ensuring a strong culture of safety across all operations. Provide technical guidance on safety-related issues to project teams and leadership. Lead safety investigations for any incidents or near-misses, conducting root cause analyses and developing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. Prepare incident reports and safety documentation for submission to RCCTO leadership and DoD safety authorities. Qualifications
Clearance Requirement: Active or current Secret level clearance minimum
Education: Masters degree in Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. 8-12 years of experience in safety engineering, with a focus on system safety, risk assessment, and safety compliance in defense or military environments. Proven experience conducting safety analyses and developing safety programs for advanced technologies, including unmanned systems, directed energy, or missile defense. Expertise in hazard analysis methods, including FMEA, FTA, and Safety Risk Management (SRM). Proficiency in safety-related tools and software for risk analysis and documentation. Experience with safety engineering for DoD or Army programs. Experience with rapid prototyping and testing of military technologies. Additional Information
