Description
General program information and/or position overview:
Leidos Maritime System Solutions (MSS) is seeking a Software / Embedded Systems Engineer to work as part of a development team in a fast-paced, research, development, testing and evaluation environment at the Naval Information Warfare Center located in San Diego, CA.
This position will require the candidate to obtain and hold a Secret Clearance. This position is for an entry to mid-level engineer to join a growing, fast-paced research, development, testing and evaluation team at Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific located in San Diego, California.
Primary Responsibilities:
This individual will work with a small team of engineers and technicians to develop, test, and deliver uncrewed underwater vehicles (UUVs) based on system requirements. Specific development includes software related to operations of UUVs as well as sensor integration.
Software development focus:
Develop and refine user interface and control of various sensors integrated onboard UUVs.
Develop and optimize UUV behaviors to accomplish assigned tasks while maximizing opportunities for sensor data collection.
Develop user-interfaces for efficient operations, and improved data presentation.
Optimize existing code (C/C++, Java, MatLab and Python).
Create engineering documentation for task deliveries.
Embedded systems focus:
Gain expertise with the existing data recording system consisting of an electronic interface board, FPGA, solid-state storage devices, a microcontroller, and a digital signal processor.
Continually work toward adding additional capability with more efficient (lower power) systems, to include: Redesigning circuit boards, reprogramming microcontrollers and FPGAs.
Researching and integrating higher performance, smaller, lower-power components.
Testing involves working onboard small boats and ships on the ocean, launching and recovering systems at-sea, and post-test analysis of data. Reporting includes providing results from post-test data analysis into official reports or briefing material. Most development and testing will be conducted in San Diego; however, engineers may occasionally travel in support of testing and/or operations in other locations both in the U.S. and abroad, and may spend multiple days at-sea onboard ships.
In addition to primary duties, this individual will be encouraged to develop expertise on the functionality and operations of one or more UUV platforms, and may be asked operate the system at-sea during test and evaluation.
Basic Qualifications:
This position requires U.S. citizenship. Existing security clearance is highly desired. Willingness to acquire SECRET (and higher) clearance is required.
Bachelor of Science (+4 years of relevant experience) or Master of Science (+2 years of relevant experience) in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a large subset of the following:
Embedded systems: electronic hardware implementation/testing and software programming
C/C++ language programming fluency
Programming experience withDigital Signal Processing
Field-Programmable Gate Arrays
Microcontrollers
Real-time programming
Experience with robotics applications.
Linear and non-linear controls theory and application.
Applicant shall have experience working in teams to develop solutions, deliver products, and test and evaluate performance. Applicant shall have experience and skill analyzing experiment data to determine results as feedback into the development cycle. Applicant shall have strong technical writing skills to provide input to technical reports and briefing material.
An ideal candidate would have experience with uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) operations, including experience with sensor integration, mission constructs, and command and control. Experience with at-sea test and evaluation (T&E) to include operations onboard small craft and large ships at sea is desired. A willingness to conduct such testing is required.
Original Posting Date:
2024-09-10While subject to change based on business needs, Leidos reasonably anticipates that this job requisition will remain open for at least 3 days with an anticipated close date of no earlier than 3 days after the original posting date as listed above.
