The Sustainable Energy Intern assists with energy conservation and efficiency efforts on their respective campus, including launching and coordinating programs, developing education and outreach campaigns, data analysis and tracking, as guided by the Climate Action Plan.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee is occasionally required to move around the campus and workspace. The employee must occasionally move up to 30 pounds. This position requires the ability to detect items both up close and far away.
Laptop / computer use (e.g. Microsoft Office and email) and cellphones are required. Occasional use of printers/copiers, university data and communication software, and office provided supplies.
Work Location
Bloomington, Indiana
This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between 4 remote workdays and 1 in-person workday), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

Job Summary
The Sustainable Energy Intern assists with energy conservation and efficiency efforts on their respective campus, including launching and coordinating programs, developing education and outreach campaigns, data analysis and tracking, as guided by the Climate Action Plan.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Works closely with building occupants and operations staff to support responsible energy consumption and research new ways to reduce the environmental impact of IU's built environment and activities.
- Gains hands on experience in project management, program development, collaboration, communication, and more.
- Researches, analyzes, and supports STARS energy categories.
- Assists with improvement of energy conservation and efficiency efforts, including Existing Building Commissioning, infrastructure upgrades, etc.
- Assists with energy conservation and efficiency efforts in on-campus housing.
- Works with various campus users to offer solutions tailored to their operations.
- Monitors available energy data, observe trends, and identify gaps in data.
- Collaborates with utilities on demand response and energy efficiency programs.
- Conducts and compiles research on topics as needed.
- Plans energy-related campaigns, such as Power Down, Efficient Laundry, Space Heater Trade-in, as well as coordinate volunteers for such initiatives.
- Assists with communicating energy efficiency efforts on social media.
- Advertises campus sustainability projects that enhance and highlight sustainable energy practices and events.
- Assists with other sustainability programs and initiatives across the university system or at your home campus.
- Collaborates with sustainability and energy focused student organizations.
- Seeks additional funding or grant sources in support of campus / university-wide sustainability and position related initiatives.
- Higher ed / sustainability focused professional development and training opportunities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
- Must maintain student status for the duration of the internship
- Have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater
Required
- Reliable and possess strong organizational skills
- Strong desire and ability to learn
- Familiarity in principles of sustainability and sustainable athletics practices
- Experience with MS Office applications, specifically Excel, Access, and Word
- Strong writing and communication skills
