Through our wholly owned subsidiaries Rio Grande LNG (RGLNG), and NEXT Carbon Solutions, we are developing a 27 MTPA LNG export facility in South Texas along with one of the largest carbon capture and storage projects in North America. By combining emissions reduction associated with our carbon capture and storage project, responsibly sourced gas, and our pledge to use net-zero electricity, Rio Grande LNG is expected to produce a lower carbon intensive LNG for the world.

JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor, ISBL, plays a crucial frontline leadership role in overseeing safe and efficient operations, including start-up, shutdown, and daily activities at the Rio Grande LNG facility.

Responsibilities include supervising ISBL field operators, conducting training, coaching, and performance reviews. They coordinate all ISBL maintenance through the PtW system, support emergency response planning and execution, and collaborate closely with the Production Shift Manager and other supervisors to optimize plant efficiency and availability. Effective communication with team members, maintenance personnel, and other support groups is essential.

This role involves direct interaction with stakeholders across various disciplines (Maintenance, Engineering, HSSE, Contracts & Procurement), contractors, and vendors, requiring leadership, HSSE, and soft skills-specific training.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE)
  • Understand and adhere to RGLNG HSSE standards, Life Saving Rules, and Process Safety Fundamentals.
  • Ensure compliance with operations manuals/procedures and use approved checklists for troubleshooting and safe start-up and shutdown of equipment.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and pre-job safety meetings.
  • Monitor ISBL area activities to ensure adherence to permitted and non-permitted operating guidelines.
  • Execute safety-related tasks aligned with Permit to Work (PTW) scopes.
  • Champion RGLNG Process Safety Fundamentals and Life Saver rules.
Plant Activities- General Operation
  • Coordinate startup, shutdown, maintenance, turnaround, and other activities with control room supervisor.
  • Maintain updated critical production and lesson learned registers.
  • Use Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to communicate operation requirements to maintenance.
  • Manage all Permits to Work (PTWs) issued, ensuring safety and risks have been covered in coordination with other Shift Supervisors.
  • Report faults, hazardous or safety concerns to the Shift Manager and take corrective action promptly to prevent incidents and escalations.
  • Supervise plant shutdowns safely and according to procedures.
  • Supervise and control process chemical usage and plant utilities.
  • Create detailed shift logs and facilitate smooth shift transitions with oncoming ISBL supervisors.
  • Participate in safety walkdowns and contribute to continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Coach and mentor frontline operation field operators, proactively addressing competency gaps and assisting in execution of shift-specific training plans.
  • During commissioning and start-up, actively contribute to project activities including, system checks, punch list management, cleaning procedures, and reviewing commissioning protocols.
Plant Activities- ISBL Operation
  • Supervise ISBL field operations including Front End and Liquification divisions.
  • Monitor lab test results and ensure LNG product quality, reporting abnormalities to the Shift Superintendent.
Plant Activities- Abnormal Plant Situations and Troubleshooting.
  • Follow Emergency Response Team plans and established protocols during emergencies.
  • Participate in emergency drills and trainings.
  • Provide guidance to operators and colleagues in troubleshooting abnormal situations.
  • Collaborate across teams to diagnose and resolve process and maintenance issues.
Plant Activities- Supporting Activities.
  • Represent RGLNG professionally with contractors and other divisions.
  • Mentor field operators/trainees and support their development.
  • Assist in implementing training plans for shift workers.
  • Foster an inclusive and knowledge-enhancing environment for shift members and provide technical and operational coaching.
  • Ensure start-up, normal operation, and maintenance procedures, along with associated paperwork, are thorough, accurate, and compliant; recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in preparing unit-specific documents such as isolation plans and operating procedures essential for maintenance activities.
  • Work a rotating 12-hour shift system, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Occasionally work extended hours during critical plant phases i.e., commissioning, startup/shutdown, and turnarounds, adhering to fatigue management procedures.
  • Work a Commissioning Roster during facility commissioning phases.
  • Complete and maintain assigned training and certification requirements per job competency profile.
  • Ensure own technical competencies through the Competency Development and Assurance process.
  • Progress and maintain competency across all facility units as per agreed progression plan.
  • Travel as required for meetings and training.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED equivalent
10 years' experience in LNG operations at a large-scale facility, ISBL section.
5 years' supervisory experience in a large LNG/gas processing facility.
Skilled in gas-pretreatment operation.
Ability to get a Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC)Skilled in reading and interpreting P&IDs, PFDs, control narratives, Cause & Effect Matrixes, Operating and Maintenance Manuals (OMM), equipment schematics/drawings, and other critical documents.
Knowledge of permit to work systems.
Strong firefighting and emergency response knowledge.
Effective time management and communication skills
Adaptability to manage changes in work environment adhering to updated deadlines or unexpected delays.
Computer literate including proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Requirements
  • Technical training in Process Operations or bachelor's degree in Process or Chemical Engineering
  • 5 years' experience in large-scale facilities utilizing APCI C3MR technology.
Work Environment & Physical Demands with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Operate in a complex construction environment.
  • Work in both control room environment, and in the field in sometimes challenging weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Able to wear all mandatory/necessary PPE equipment to perform job functions.
  • Able to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
  • Able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Able to lift equipment needed to perform work.
  • Willing to be on call, work outside of normal business hours as required and handle emergency response responsibilities.
  • Able to move throughout all areas of the facility, including physically capable of traveling to muster points during emergency situations.
