SUMMARY

The Operations Manager is responsible for overall production, in the facility, which runs on a 3-shift basis. Responsible for the work assignments of production supervisors and meeting the customer's quality and deliver requirements, working closely with the technical engineering support teams for current production and future business. Teamwork with internal quality and logistics is also essential to succeed and limited customer contact is required for new program launches and current production issues. This role is part of a team of managers to support all production functions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage all Shift and Production Supervisors for each shift. This includes interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring, performance appraisals, and disciplining.
  • Promote awareness and provide direction to employees to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ensure elimination/reduction of workplace lost time accidents and incidents.
  • Prioritize awareness and provide direction to employees for process optimization and continuous improvement. (P.P.M., First pass yield and scrap).
  • Ensure customer expectations for product quality are met or exceeded.
  • Track and maintain maximum utilization of all allocated resources including personnel, equipment, material, and other expenses.
  • Adhere to established annual goals including continuous improvement of all key production figures.
  • Manage assigned area's production activities and activities between all shifts including the continuous improvement of all change-overs.
  • Organize the workforce through proper distribution to ensure that production objectives and customer demands are being met.
  • Stop process if quality, safety, or environmental problems occur.
  • Organize and maintain training for production workforce to maximize safety and production.
  • Build a safe, improvement-focused operation, through a workforce empowered by comprehensive training, effective communications, clear operating goals, and recognitions for achievement.
  • Maintain introduced standards including but not limited to "first piece inspection."
  • Make certain that all production equipment is available.
  • Maintain all production parameters.
  • Responsible for OEE.
  • Support new product launches by assisting with the implementation of manufacturing procedures for new operations.
  • Recommend, implement, and carry out personnel changes within area of responsibility; i.e. promotions, transfers, demotions, terminations, shift changes, additions, and performance/wage adjustment issues.
  • Ensure consistency and compliance to plant policy and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate open communication and teamwork at all levels.
  • Interface as needed on production and program issues as well as discussions regarding plant facilities, capital equipment replacements, new process and tooling requirements.
  • Act as change catalyst for improvements in cultural environment.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree required; B.S. in Engineering or Management preferred.
  • Five or more years' experience in manufacturing.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive supervisory responsibility for a manufacturing production line.
  • Experience in an automotive manufacturing facility strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, OEE, and production systems.
  • Familiarity with time keeping systems, computerized production systems, Lotus Notes applications, and Microsoft Office software programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and employee development skills.
