As a Payload Systems Architect, you will be using your skills and expertise to research, architect, model, simulate, test, certify and improve cutting edge products and services. You'll be developing complex system architectures within contextual modeling platforms, ushering them from operational concept through preliminary and detailed design, simulation, and test using progressive tools. As a cross-functional engineer, you are in charge of system-level ownership of new products and processes through the product lifecycle. Responsibilities: Serve as the Payload Systems Architect, collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, including software developers, electrical engineers, and optical scientists.
Make critical technical decisions to ensure that all system requirements are met.
Lead a cross-functional team through the entire system lifecycle, from conceptual design and development to integration, testing, and deployment.
Identify, manage, and mitigate technical risks, effectively communicating these risks to stakeholders and ensuring timely resolution. Must-haves: Bachelor's of Science degree in System Engineering or related discipline and typically 14 or more years of relevant experience
Higher education may substitute for relevant experience
Progressive experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
Advanced understanding of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design, systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles
Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to navigate complex technical challenges.
The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required Experience with airborne mission systems
Experience with infrared imaging systems
Advanced Experience with requirements management and system modelling tools, such as DOORS, Rhapsody, NoMagic, Cameo, and MATLAB
Knowledge of industry standard mechanical design principles, to include, but not limited to requirements management, Model Based System Engineering (MBSE)
Experience or certification in INCOSE standards
Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry
Experience leading baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of high impact trade studies and other measures
Thorough understanding of establishing and tracking key Technical Performance Measurements (TPM)
Creative and innovative mindset, capable of developing solutions to meet highly demanding requirements. Preferred: A general understanding of the key technologies used on the system and the systems engineering tasks associated with bringing the subsystems together to perform the top level system requirements. The candidate should have familiarity with the following technologies:
Familiarity with Electro Optical Infrared (EO/IR) systems. Working level understanding of infrared imaging architectures and the core technology that enables them to include image processing, command and control, as well as final data product interpretation.
Familiarity with common airborne mission system elements such as - Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), Intercommunication systems (ICS), tactical radios, general compute architecture, networking, power distribution, cooling systems, and tactical datalinks (such as Link-16).
Open architecture familiarity with the Open Mission Systems (OMS)/Universal Command and Control (C2) Interface (UCI) - Including the architectural principals and the general system behavior.
Working knowledge of aircraft certification criteria such as MIL-HDBK-516 or 14 CFR Part 25. Estimated Starting Salary Range: $159,430.15 - $219,216.46.
