STS Technical Services is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in heavy-duty trucks to join our team in Ridgeland, SC. This role is essential to designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical systems and components for next-generation truck models. You will play a key part in improving performance, reliability, and efficiency while ensuring regulatory compliance and industry-leading standards. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this position offers the opportunity to drive innovation and contribute to cutting-edge vehicle designs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Truck Design & Development: Lead the design of mechanical systems, including chassis, suspension, drivetrain, and auxiliary systems, from concept to production.
  • Engineering Analysis & Simulation: Perform detailed engineering analysis, simulations, and testing to ensure performance, durability, and safety under various operating conditions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs adhere to relevant FMVSS, EPA emissions regulations, NHTSA safety standards, and customer requirements.
  • Prototype Testing & Validation: Oversee the prototyping, testing, and validation of components, identifying and resolving design challenges in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers on best practices, methodologies, and tools in heavy-duty truck design.
  • Collaboration & Integration: Partner with vehicle dynamics, electrical engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with other subsystems.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to improve design processes, increase reliability, and reduce production costs while accelerating time-to-market.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of heavy-duty truck systems including chassis, suspension, drivetrain, and vehicle dynamics.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards, including FMVSS, EPA emissions, and NHTSA safety standards.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading engineering projects from concept to production.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well in cross-functional teams.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master s preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, specifically in heavy-duty trucks or commercial vehicles.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and engineering simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Adams).


Working Conditions:

  • Primarily office-based, with occasional work in warehouse or manufacturing settings.
  • Some travel required to manufacturing facilities, suppliers, or customer sites to support quality initiatives and resolve issues.
  • Must follow company safety protocols, including PPE requirements (safety shoes, glasses, and vest).


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, sit, stand, crouch, and lift up to 50 lbs.
