Job Description As a Research Engineer - Combustion, you will be a member of a world-class team that is focused on developing cutting-edge aircraft engine combustion technology and new technology relevant to advanced air-breathing propulsion systems. You will perform research and development of combustion technology and systems that will support GE Aerospace. Essential Responsibilities: You will work in a team carrying out research and development of next generation combustion technology for low-emissions and sustainable aircraft engines and other high-speed air-breathing propulsion systems. In this role you will:
Work with technicians and engineers to design and install new experimental hardware;
Perform high-pressure and temperature combustion experiments and analyze results;
Work with other engineers in developing new combustion models and analysis tools;
Lead cutting edge research in high-speed propulsion;
Work in multidisciplinary teams to tackle the difficult challenges of hypersonic flight;
Work as part of a team executing on multi-generation technology programs to enable future design advancements. Support/contribute to generation of intellectual property for GE Aerospace Qualifications/Requirements: Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related disciplines with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Knowledge of combustion, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and combustion chemistry.
Background in planning, preparing, and performing combustion experiments or theoretical analysis.
Ability to investigate, model and provide critical insight into complex physical phenomena.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with supporting functions, senior leaders, and customers with clarity and confidence Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship.
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY Desired Characteristics: Background in aircraft engine combustion and emissions, including: fuel/air premixing systems, autoignition, flame propagation in complex fuel mixtures, combustion kinetics & chemistry, thermo-acoustic instabilities (combustion dynamics), design and evaluation of new combustion systems, and modeling of combustion systems.
Peer reviewed journal publications. Experience in establishing and working with high-pressure, high-temperature combustion experiments and facilities.
The base pay range for this position is $80,000 - $150,000 USD annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary/ commission based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on June 18, 2024.
