Job Title: Specialist, Electrical Engineer Job Code: 16742 Job Location: Rochester, New York Job Schedule: 9/80 Job Description: Individual to provide direction and orchestrate planning and estimating for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing of our next generation Tactical and Public Safety radio products, ancillaries, and custom systems. This person will serve as the subject matter expert and technical lead for the EMI/EMC test functions. The Engineering Specialist will support internal customers at all phases of product development from initial estimation to prototype development and initial productization as it pertains to MIL-STD-461 and/or MIL-STD-464 test planning and execution. This employee will lead EMI test design, development, and execution. They will work with Sr. Engineers to assist with IRAD development projects and current product improvements, participating in design and design review, market and industry supplier technology review and assessment, and system integration. This is an opportunity to guide and support our EMI/EMC initiatives for a variety of L3Harris products. Essential Functions: Collaborate with electrical engineering peers to define and develop product plans and test procedures.
Support product and test equipment set-up, testing and report generation to military or commercial standards.
Interpret test results and manage JIRA defect entry and tracking. Aid in pre-qualification testing during each product development phase, assist engineers for product improvement, and perform formal qualification testing to customer requirements. Create CAS compliant estimates (BOE's) and project schedules and execute the work (in conjunction with other test lab personal) to the approved test plan.
Train, mentor and provide direction to two or more lab technicians who perform all current EMI/EMC testing. (Dotted line responsibility).
Provide performance improvement recommendations and implement improvement of tools, software and equipment for EMI testing in anechoic chambers.
Serve as the primary point of contact for EMI for Integration and Test (I&T), scheduling, and other new product development support teams to provide incremental progress updates.
Participate in product and process e3 and other continuous improvement efforts.
Ability to obtain Secret Clearance with Sponsorship from L3Harris.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Requires knowledge of EMI/EMC design analysis and the ability to test to meet MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, or related standards typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. (Or ability and willingness to learn.) Preferred Additional Skills: Some Software Programming or scripting (Python, MATLAB, etc).
Ability to design automated tests using TILE (Block Scripting Language).
Use of Governmental databases for certification and testing. Experience with Maximum RF Exposure (HERP/F/O) and SAR evaluations of transmitter emissions on humans to Worldwide Standards. Familiar with any of: MIL-STD-704 / -1275 / -1399 power testing.
Practical knowledge of project management. In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Vermont, Washington State and New York State is $74,000 - $138,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
