About Rivian:
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role Summary:
We are looking for a Staff Engineer with significant experience in cloud technologies, multi-tenancy architectures, and developing scalable SaaS platforms. This role will focus on building the front-end architecture and components of Rivian's enterprise fleet management tools, integrating complex authentication/authorization systems (AuthN/AuthZ), and ensuring efficient code-splitting and bundling strategies using modern tools like NX. Additionally, you will collaborate with backend teams on optimizing data flow using GraphQL and delivering an exceptional user experience. This role will be located out of our Palo Alto Office and reports directly into the Sr. Manager, Fleet Applications.
Responsibilities:
Work with the existing UI team to design and development of React-based user interfaces for Rivian's enterprise fleet management tools, ensuring a seamless and intuitive experience.
Implement and optimize code splitting, lazy loading, and tree shaking strategies to deliver performant applications with efficient resource usage.
Work with backend teams to implement and maintain GraphQL endpoints, enabling efficient and scalable data handling.
Develop a multi-tenant SaaS architecture with tenant isolation, role-based access control (RBAC), and tenant-specific configurations to support enterprise customers.
Implement authentication and authorization systems (AuthN/AuthZ) for enterprise users, ensuring secure access control using technologies like OAuth2, JWT, and SAML.
Utilize tools like NX to manage large-scale monorepos and ensure consistent code quality across teams.
Collaborate with backend developers on cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, etc.) to integrate with serverless functions, databases, and API services.
Ensure the front-end architecture is aligned with cloud-native solutions and scalable infrastructure, using best practices for deployment and performance.
Work closely with UX/UI designers and product managers to create a visually compelling and highly functional application tailored for large fleets.
Ensure the SaaS platform is optimized for enterprise-level usage with considerations for scalability, security, and high availability.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent experience
5+ years of professional experience with React and JavaScript (ES6+) in a production environment.
Proven experience building SaaS platforms with multi-tenancy, including tenant-specific data isolation, custom configurations, and scaling strategies.
Proficiency in GraphQL, including designing queries, mutations, and handling large-scale data efficiently.
Strong understanding of cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure) and experience in integrating front-end with cloud-based APIs and services.
Expertise in authentication/authorization frameworks like OAuth2, JWT, SAML, and building role-based access control (RBAC) systems.
Experience with code-splitting, lazy loading, and bundling optimization techniques for enhancing application performance.
Familiarity with NX or similar tools for managing large-scale monorepos and optimizing build processes.
Experience with state management libraries such as Redux, Zustand or Context API.
Knowledge of enterprise software development, particularly tools designed for fleet management or other large-scale operations.
Strong understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and front-end performance optimization techniques.
Experience working in an Agile environment with CI/CD practices and automated testing frameworks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with serverless architectures, such as AWS Lambda, for scaling SaaS platforms.
Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and deploying cloud-based SaaS applications.
Understanding of security best practices for SaaS platforms, including data encryption, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and security audits.
Experience working with Next.js or other server-side rendering frameworks.
Prior experience in B2B SaaS products, specifically targeting enterprise customers with complex fleet or asset management needs.
