Job Summary Are you ready to embark on a journey where your expertise meets meaningful impact? As the Senior R&D Systems Engineer you'll dive into the various system level challenges and technical issues spanning autonomy, sensors, fusion, data analysis & management, communication systems, flight operations, and other capabilities related to ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Recognizance) missions. You'll also help direct, oversee, and guide Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) efforts to establish and expand an authoritative source of truth for a rapidly developing set of requirements, architectures, and implementations of an autonomous ISR UCAV (Uncrewed Air Vehicle prototype. You'll also help direct Mission Engineering and analysis efforts to understand operational needs, and architecture level tradeoffs that drive measures of effectiveness (MOEs) and performance (MOPs). The successful candidate for this position possesses a deep and diverse background that includes autonomous flight systems, mission modeling & simulation, sensing technology, software/hardware product design, research & development, and artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) solutions. This role will be part of a team supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in a research and development effort to prototype and transition an autonomous ISR capability operating at the edge to detect, identify, track, maintain custody of and report on high value targets. Responsibilities include: Roles and Responsibilities: Support AFRL Principal Investigator on R&D projects in the remote sensing and/or autonomy domain, in support of ISR missions.
Oversee and help direct complex architecture and implementation MBSE modeling efforts to build an authoritative source of truth, support R&D prototyping efforts, and support transition to an Air Force Program of Record
Oversee and help direct Mission Engineering analysis to help define operational needs and MOEs and MOPs to help characterize performance and inform system development
Organize, and lead teams of diverse backgrounds and technical skills, fostering collaboration among systems engineers, software developers, and hardware designers.
Serve as a subject matter expert (among a team of SMEs) and help drive the conception, development, and implementation of technical solutions to fulfill project objectives.
Develop customer relationships and engage to understand emergent technical problems of importance.
Experience working in a DoD security environment
Experience working closely with engineering teams to evaluate, integrate, and deliver novel technologies Basic Qualifications: Academic degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science, with accompanying years of relevant experience as indicated:
Bachelor's + 15 years
Master's + 11 years
Ph.D. + 5 years
Demonstrated background and relevant experience in the development of sensing technologies (systems, software)
Demonstrable successful performance in technical leadership role(s)
Participation in R&D business capture through solution development, customer engagement, and proposal content preparation
Excellence in oral and written technical communication.
Effective organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Preferred Qualifications: Active Top Secret Security Clearance
