Summary/Objective KMS Solutions is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team of engineers and technicians providing engineering and technical support to the Ranges, Engineering, and Analysis Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport RI. This multi-disciplinary team is responsible for providing systems safety, environmental qualification testing, and range sustainment in support of undersea warfare systems, including unmanned and autonomous systems. Candidates are highly desired with education and experience in computer engineering or software development fields. Essential Functions Research and analyze system code (C/C++, JAVA, Python, etc.) designs, specifications, models, and code to determine Undersea Warfare (USW) Systems are developed to meet requirements and specifications throughout the system's lifecycle
Analyze USW systems and software to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications utilizing DoD and industry coding standards
Evaluate the feasibility, design, operation and performance of software for USW systems as it relates to system safety
Investigate potential software failures or bugs and make recommendations to ensure safe and effective operation and deployment, and eliminate or reduce potential of system failures Required Education and Experience (for Entry level positions): Ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance Bachelor's Degree in a computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
Five (5) years of software engineering experience
Experience in system engineering or safety engineering methods Preferred Knowledge and Experience (for Journeyman positions): Engineering experience specifically with undersea warfare systems and/or Navy training range systems
NUWC Division Newport specific experience
Experience with the U. S. Navy Weapon Systems
Coding abilities specifically in development, troubleshooting, and integration phases
Strong working knowledge of system safety analyses using MIL-STD-882E and Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH)
Experience in code Quality Assurance (QA), preferably utilizing Jira or similar software to track bugs Required Competencies: Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to all levels of the customer and company leadership
Capable of effectively working and problem solving in both independent and team environments
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
Strong understanding of the fundamentals of data structures and algorithms as they apply to code development
Thoroughness and attention to detail Preferred Competencies: Experience communicating and interacting with, all levels of the customer and company leadership.
Ability to work independently
