Responsibilities Peraton is seeking a skilled and adaptable Meteorologist to support our aviation program that operates CONUS and OCONUS. This position is crucial for ensuring safe and efficient flight operations by providing accurate weather forecasting, analysis, and mission support. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in meteorology, experience with aviation weather, and the ability to work in diverse environments. Examples of duties include but not limited to: Provide timely and accurate weather forecasts and analysis for aviation operations, including flight planning and in-flight support.
Monitor and interpret meteorological data from various sources, including satellites, radar, and weather stations, to assess current and future weather conditions.
Develop and disseminate weather briefings and reports to operational teams, pilots, and management, emphasizing safety and risk management.
Collaborate with other meteorological and aviation professionals to ensure comprehensive weather coverage and understanding of regional conditions.
Utilize meteorological software and tools to create forecasts, graphics, and other materials to support aviation operations.
Respond to rapidly changing weather conditions and provide real-time updates to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
Conduct training and briefings for operational staff on weather impacts and best practices for weather-related decision-making.
Participate in post-mission assessments to evaluate the impact of weather on operations and recommend improvements for future missions.Qualifications Required Skills: Strong understanding of aviation weather regulations and standards, including FAA and ICAO guidelines.
Proficiency in meteorological forecasting tools and software (e.g., AWIPS, GRIB, GIS).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound judgments under pressure.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience in delivering briefings to diverse audiences. Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing conditions.Preferred Qualifications: Experience in international operations or deployments in military or government settings.
Certification from a recognized meteorological organization (e.g., AMS, NWS).
Familiarity with remote sensing technologies and data interpretation.Experience and Education: Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or completion of Air Force AFSC 1W0X1 or comparable schools is highly desired; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in meteorology, with a focus on aviation weather services.
