Michigan Technological University invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the assistant professor level. Exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered for appointment at an associate or full professor rank and considered for an open endowed chair position in the department. Applicants for the position are required to have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering or a closely related discipline (by start date). All research areas of chemical and biomolecular/bioprocess engineering are of interest, and candidates with research interests that align with
Michigan Tech’s research centers are strongly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, nationally visible research program as well as contribute effectively to both undergraduate and graduate teaching with a student-centric, learner-oriented, experiential approach to instruction and mentoring. We have competitive salaries commensurate with qualifications and experience, attractive benefits, a dynamically tunable teaching load, and competitive start-up/transition research funding for faculty.

Michigan Tech attracts internationally prominent faculty who enrich the educational experience of smart, motivated, and adventurous students. Applicants who are committed to promoting a sense of belonging and contributing to an equitable and inclusive learning environment for all are strongly encouraged to apply (https://www.mtu.edu/diversity-inclusion/). The Department of Chemical Engineering currently has 13 tenure track and instructional track faculty members, ~400 undergraduate students, and 32 graduate students. Externally-funded research has more than doubled in the past five years, and the Department is on a trajectory to double its graduate enrollment over the next five years. The Department's Unit Operations Laboratory is one of the best in the nation, with two pilot plants, numerous bench-scale processes, and a state-of-the-art process operation and control facility. Michigan Tech's graduates are eagerly sought by industry because of our emphasis on hands-on training and creative problem-solving.

Full details for the position, along with the link to the application submission system, can be found at https://www.employment.mtu.edu/cw/en-us/job/493377 and the required and desired qualifications and experience differ by potential faculty rank. Applicants must provide the following: (1) a cover letter (we strongly encourage applicants to address the required and desired qualifications in their cover letter along with an explanation of how they will contribute to the Vision and Mission of Michigan Tech.)(2) a current curriculum vitae, (3) a research statement emphasizing experiences, interests, and future plans to develop an independent, externally funded research program while building collaborations across the department and
campus, and (4) a teaching statement emphasizing interests and teaching/mentoring philosophy that explores challenging and positioning all students for success. Through documents 1-4, the ideal candidate will clearly convey their experience and passion regarding the required and desired criteria in the position description.

Applicants will be asked to provide the names and contact information of three professional/academic references as part of the application process. The position will remain open until filled, but applications submitted by November 30, 2023 will receive priority consideration. Please direct inquiries to the Search Committee Chair, Dr. Adrienne Minerick (minerick@mtu.edu). Review
of the applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. If you plan to be at the AIChE Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL, this fall, please include in your cover letter information on the session(s) where you will be making a poster and/or oral presentation(s). We anticipate bringing the finalists to Michigan Tech beginning in the fall and continuing into spring. The position(s) would begin in the Spring and/or Fall of 2024.
